Olympus Ex-Bosses Plead Guilty to Fraud

Three executives from Olympus have plead guilty to fraudulently boosting the company's true value from 2007 to 2008 by concealing losses in their financial statements. The executives--namely former chairman Tsuyoshi Kikukawa, former auditor Hideo Yamada, and former vice president Hisashi Mori--were charged with fraud, which was revealed last year by Olympus' ex-CEO Michael Woodford. The company's board of directors fired Woodford for blowing the whistle, but reportedly received a large settlement in the process. Since then, the company revealed that they actually have been cooking the books as far back as the 1990s to conceal investment losses. They also confessed in 2011 that Olympus had a billion dollars less in value than previously stated. This has forced Olympus to look for a partner to raise capital. Olympus MEG4.0 Wearable Display Hooks Up to Smartphones

We have reported about rumors that Apple plans on stealing Google's thunder with its own wearable display and apparently cash-strapped Olympus already went ahead with its own similar prototype, which the company has been developing since 2005. There are stark differences with Google's Project Glass and the MEG4.0 from Olympus. For one, the latter is not a standalone structure and requires a glasses frame to make it wearable. Its QVGA display can connect to other devices via Bluetooth 2.1, with a possibility of hooking up with certain smartphones for processing and or Internet connectivity. Olympus' current prototype can run on its own for up to eight hours of intermittent use, or two hours if used non-stop. The company has no word on when the MEG4.0 will be formally released.
