New Kindle Fire Tablets Revealed

Posted on September 6, 2012

Apart from the new Kindle Paperwhite, Amazon also introduced new Kindle Fire tablets.

First we have an updated version of the old Kindle Fire. The newer model performs faster and has longer battery life. The revamped Kindle Fire (which has been teased as “Kindle Fire SD”) has double the RAM of the original. It is priced at $159, slightly lower compared to its competitors.

Meanwhile, Amazon also unveiled two Kindle Fire HD models. One has an 8.9-inch display, while the other comes with a 7-inch display. The two tablets have a higher price point as it comes with Dolby digital sound and high-density displays.

Both HD models are equipped with a TI OMAP 4470 processor, two antennas for improved WiFi performance, a laminated touch sensor to reduce glare while producing sharper contrast. Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos claims the WiFi on the Fire HD is 41 percent faster than the iPad.

The two tablets also have a front-facing HD camera and comes pre-installed with a custom-built Skype application. The front shooter is an answered prayer to those who complained about the absence of a camera on the first Kindle Fire.

The 7-inch Fire HD with 16GB of storage will cost $199 and ships beginning September 14th. The 8.9-inch tablet with 16GB of storage retails for $299 and ships November 20th. Both Fire HDs also come in a 32GB version, for $249 and $369 respectively.
