Apple Sues Kodak for Patent Infringement

Talk about kicking a man while he’s down! It is almost a month since Kodak filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and barely a week after shutting down its digital camera business, but that does not deter Apple for slapping the century-old imaging company with a patent infringement lawsuit.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Apple’s legal team asked a United States Bankruptcy Court for permission to sue Kodak with a patent infringement complaint in a Manhattan district court, as well as a corollary complaint in the ITC. The complaint focuses on several image transfer technologies Kodak uses in its digital cameras, prints, and digital picture frames.

If the bankruptcy court gives Apple its blessing, the Cupertino-based company will go ahead with the court complaints in hopes of obtaining a block against Kodak’s supposedly infringing devices. Meanwhile, Kodak can file a request to hold off the district-level case until ITC comes up with a decision.
