Apple has unveiled its iBooks 2, which brings textbooks to the iPad. The company aims this platform to bring portability, interactivity, searchability, and richer content to traditional textbooks. For instance, students can pinch the screen to zoom in on a photo of DNA strands or watch videos about significant historical events, thus enabling them to learn in an interactive fashion.

The free-to-download iBooks 2 will also integrate quizzes into the tablet with as much interactivity. A geography test, for example, may allow students to tap on a portion of the map to identify a landmark. Users can even tap a word to search for its definition, as well as videos and pictures to accompany it.

The company is excited to claim that iBooks 2 will reinvent textbooks, giving the iPad a much more functional usage than just something you can play Angry Birds.

Apple also announces that top textbook publishers namely Pearson, McGraw Hill, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt have established partnerships with them. This provides students to access these publishers’ textbooks, which are used by over four million high school students. to the iPad. Each textbook will cost $14.99 each.
