YouTube Slam Pits Videos Against Each Other

Posted on December 28, 2011

Google has launched its “Hot or Not” way of video-browsing interactivity. YouTube Slam would pit two videos at random and public gets to vote which entertained them the most. YouTube Slam provides viewers a way to discover videos that they might not otherwise stumble upon during their normal browsing.

According to YouTube, the Slam is a “place for discovering talented amateur singers, the most adorable clips, and the craziest videos on YouTube.” Videos are pitted in five categories: bizarre, comedy, cute, dance, and music. Some countries may have fewer categories.

Winners of the showdowns will get featured on a leaderboard.

But how does voting for videos benefit the viewer? You get to earn points for selecting the more popular video among the two, enabling you to “see how you stack up against other players at the end of each week.

So far, YouTube Slam has its kinks it needed to straighten, such as inclusion of videos with racial slurs and copyright infringements. Viewers (and companies) who are on the hunt for copyright violators can click the Flag button located next to each voting button.
