Dutch Engineer Develops “Wings” for Humans

Posted on December 27, 2011

A mechanical engineer from the Netherlands has been developing a project that he hopes would eventually enable humans to have their own set of wings. Jamos Smeet’s Human Birdwings project uses a combination of HTC Wildfire S, a Wii remote, and his knowledge on software development to create a pair of wings that can be controlled by a human as he wave his arms as if flying.

The project stemmed from Smeet’s dream of being able to fly and so far, it looks promising. But of course, some are not buying it, claiming it is just a “glider” instead of a pair of functional wings.

Let’s see where his dream of flying will take him–and the rest of us. Watch the video to see the wings in action.
