Many printed publications slowly undergo the transition from paper to digital. Books, newspapers, even calendars have become digital, but that does not mean paper will be down and out.

Berg Cloud has developed a “mini-printer” of sorts called Little Printer. It prints out receipt-sized slips of paper filled with customized content. According to its product page, the Little Printer connects to your Android or iOS smartphone and prints your subscribed content according to a user’s “publication” options ranging from world news, entertainment gossip, daily puzzle, birthday reminders, to-do lists, to workout checklist. The device can even publish one’s Foursquare check-ins, “Picture of the Day,” and “Partworks,” a daily lesson on user’s chosen genre of art. A simple push of a button gets the Little Printer started.

Putting digital content into a smaller piece of paper may end up being more manageable than reading news on a tablet. A printed-out to-do list would be more convenient to carry around compared to constantly unlocking your smartphone to check your list, even putting your phone at risk of accidental drops and even theft.

Pre-order for Little Printer begins in 2012, at which point the device will be launched in beta form.
