Are we drawing closer to the robotic age?

Japanese company Kawada Industries has developed a humanoid robot designed to work along with humans. The Nextage robot may not be the first of its kind, but this one is already commercialized.

Nextage features a high-speed stereo camea, as well as two arms with 12 joints each that can be positioned within 30 microns. In case a human worker approaches the robot, it stops working immediatey for safety reasons.

“We’ve created these robots to work alongside people, and to cooperate with people in the same environment,” Kawa Industries explained in a press statement. “Work done by people doesn’t involve handling large objects or moving very fast. Our aim is for industrial robots to do human work like that, so people can be more productive by working together with robots.”

Nextage robots are recently spotted during an exhibition in Tokyo, wherein three networked humanoids assemble objects by themselves without any need for human intervention.
