Riots, Pepper Spray, Oh My!

It has been crazy over the weekend and we are not just talking about Thanksgiving.

Yesterday (Sunday), a crowd of 3,000 people trooped to one store in Jakarta, Indonesia, in anticipation for the retail launch of the BlackBerry Bold 9790. Research In Motion promised a 50 percent discount on the handset for the first 1,000 buyers and when the announcement came that the phone had sold out, things turned ugly. According to reports, the crowd began “rattling the gates” and later “went crazy” after realizing that they have missed out on the phone entirely. Indonesia, located in southeastern Asia, is one of BlackBerry’s biggest markets.

Meanwhile, it is not as civilized over in the United States during a Black Friday shopping spree. A massive line was let inside the local Wal-Mart store at 10:20p.m. when a woman pulled out a can of pepper spray and began spraying toward the crowd to keep them away from discounted electronics she wanted to purchase.

At least 20 shoppers suffered minor injuries, while the lady culprit is still at large.
