Amazon Tablet to be Unveiled as Kindle Fire

Amazon is about to hold a press conference tomorrow (September 28). Apart from the location and time, nothing else was revealed in the invitations, but the tech community speculates that it could be the unveiling of Amazon’s new Kindle tablet, which they say would be named “Kindle Fire.”

The tablet will feature a 7-inch backlit display, a TI dual-core OMAP chip, a 1.2GHz CPU, and looks similarly like the BlackBerry PlayBook, probably because it was designed and built by the same design manufacturer, Quanta. Although Amazon has its own team for Kindle design and development, the company wants to get the Kindle Fire out in time for the holiday season (and probably to steal the new Nook Color 2’s thunder), hence they outsourced most of the units. Note that the image is based on a mock-up provided by TechCrunch.

The Kindle Fire tablet will not be ready for shipping until the second week of November, according to sources.
