Build-A-Bear Introduces Kinect-Capable Teddies

Microsoft and toy store Build-A-Bear Workshop have partnered up to develop Kinectimals Now With Bears, a Kinect-based game for the Xbox 360.

As the name suggests, this Kinectimals game makes use of Build-A-Bear teddies that have special tags, making them to appear within the game. This allows players to control the teddy bear just as how it appears on the video game. There are four Kinect-enabled bears to choose from: Champ — A Champion Fur Kids, Colorful Hearts Bear, Endless Hearts Teddy, and Peace & Hearts Bear. Apart from traditional toy stores and video game outlets, the Kinectimals with Bears will also be available in Build-A-Bear stores to show kids what the game can do.

The Build-A-Bear toys are already expensive and integrating them with tags and have a tied-up video game that requires a motion sensor add-on to work would make the toys even more costly at the end. But hey, it’s for the children and if the house rule is “what the baby wants, the baby gets,” then heed those words.
