Krypton S3 Laser Can Cause Plane Crashes

Wicked Lasers introduces what could be the brightest legal laser in the market. The Krypton S3 can go up to 1,000 milliwatts for an output of 86 million lux. That is, according to the manufacturer, 8,000 times brighter than looking directly at the sun.

The device, however, comes with a warning. Wicked Lasers advises that the laser can be so bright, it is “potentially hazardous to pilots’ vision and satellite sensors.” Users are asked to be responsible enough to “NEVER” point the laser at an aircraft or a satellite, as well as at another person, an animal, or vehicle. It is also unadvisable to use the Krypton S3 as a laser pointer or a gunsight.

So with all that hazards, why do need such a laser? TechCrunch thinks it is “fun for astronomy and experiments,” but this particular laser should not be given to children.

The Krypton S3 is available online, with price ranging from $300 (for the 300mW laser) to $999 (for 1,000mW unit).
