Toshiba AT200 Tablet Makes Samsung Galaxy Tab Fat

Toshiba has announced a new 10.1-inch Android tablet in its line-up. The AT200 measures a measly 7.7 millimeters in thickness, making the Samsung Galaxy Tab a tad too thick for our discriminate taste. The device features a 1.2GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 CPU, up to 64GB of memory, Android 3.2 (with over-the-air update to Ice Cream Sandwich), a backlit LCD with 1,280 x 800 resolution, micro-USB, microSD, micro-HDMI, and a battery life that lasts up to eight hours of video watching.

The Toshiba AT200 is an step-upped version of the Thrive tablet, also known as the AT100, which has been criticized for its bulky design. Looks like the company was too late to realize that consumers want their tablets “thin and light,” as one Toshiba manager puts it.

Before Apple fans accuse the AT200 as an iPad copycat, note that the tablet is very different from the location of ports and rear camera, as well as the brushed aluminum backplate. So that’s one less patent infringement case that another company has to worry about.

The AT200 is expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2011. No word yet on the price.
