If you have a famous luxury brand that wants to venture into the smartphone business, that product better be worth the hefty cost. We have encountered luxury smartphones that are more of a joke because its specs are at par, even lower in some cases, with current yet cheaper smartphones. Watch maker Tag Heuer has announced its Link Smart Phone, which is apparently their second mobile phone, and has explained in great lengths why it is worth the $6,700 initial price tag.

The Android-powered Link is ruggedly designed so that it would withstand accidents, whether it is dropped to the ground or the backyard pool. Its screen is even made from Gorilla Glass, which cannot even be broken by a sledgehammer. The case comes in either steel, 18-karat rose gold, or titanium details; its trims are made of alligator and calfskin leather, rubber, and black PVD. The phone even has a crown on its side, much like any wristwatch, which works as its “autolock system” that reveals the slots and ports.

The smartphone comes with a 3.5-inch TFT screen with 800 x 480 resolution, 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus and video recorder, FM radio, and a wide array of connectivity options including stereo Bluetooth and WiFi

On the software side, the Tag Heuer Link features 256MB internal memory; scant by modern standards, but the 8GB memory card slot makes up for it. Still, it has become a pattern among luxury smartphones to have little storage capacities.

This smartphone will be launched exclusively to Tag Heuer retailers beginning next month.
