This Toy Parakeet Imitates What You Say

Posted on April 7, 2011

Japanese toy maker Takara Tomy has released the Manekko P-Chan, a small parakeet toy that repeats what its owners say. Simply speak in front of the bird and seconds later it talks back. Note that it can only record up to four seconds of speech at a time.

Users can also teach phrases to the P-Chan, which it stores in its memory and repeats at random times. It is just like any real talking birds do. These phrases can be deleted and replaced with new ones.

Apart from teaching new phrases, each of the three P-Chan models comes with a set of pre-programmed phrases (in Japanese) that match their personality. For instance, the blue one is the romantic type who blurts out “Anata ga totemo sukidesu” every now and then.

The toy parakeets only weigh 46 grams and works on three LR44 button batteries.
