Apple sent out invitations to press offices for what is speculate to be the unveiling of the iPad 2 on March 2.

The cryptic electronic invitation includes an image of a calendar page showing the date “March 2,” which is being peeled away and reveal what appears to be an iPad. The invitation read, “Come see what 2011 will the year of.”

The event will be held in the morning at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco.

A lot of speculations swirl about the new features of the next-gen iPad. Some say it will include FaceTime video conference feature, which appeared in iPhone 4, as well as a faster processor, while others think that most updates will be on the software front and may even eliminate some features seen in the first iPad.

The event comes at the heels of other tablets debuting left and right, determined to compete with the iPad.

Over 15 million iPads have been sold since April 2010 and now represents 17 percent of Apple’s revenue.
