BMW to Develop Electric Car Line

Posted on February 22, 2011

Not to be outdone by Rolls-Royce’s announcement of introducing an electric car prototype, Germany-based luxury car builder BMW (formally Bayerische Motoren Werke) stated that it would develop a line of battery-powered cars collectively called BMW i. The sub-brand, with vehicles made of carbon fiber and aluminum, is expected to roll out on 2013.

Details about the BMW i are being fed to the media bit by bit. Last Monday, the company showed off body design details and the slanted “i” logo that will be used to market their electric vehicles.

BMW also announced that it would introduce not one, but two BMW i models: a four-seat, battery-powered car for urban settings known as the i3; and a hybrid sports car called the i8, which is said to reach up to 100 kilometers an hour in just five seconds, while burning significantly lesser fuel.

All BMW i cars will feature recognizable elements of a BMW such as the kidney-shaped grill design on the front, even though it is not needed in electric vehicles. They will also have computers that can be loaded with usable apps such as finding parking space in the city.

The company has been researching about developing electric cars since 2007, known as Project i.

If they plan to build a new line of Electric cars under the BMW brand then I suggest that they should make a strategic plan for this to survive. Build cars with good parts, not only good parts but quality parts. Focus on the safety of the users and make sure to give all their best in making the cars.
