Facebook Founder’s Page Got Hacked, or Is It?

Posted on January 26, 2011

Techcrunch reported that the fan page of Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg has been allegedly hacked. The suspected hacker left an incoherently written status update along with a link that may lead to a phishing site. The message reads:

Let the hacking begin: If facebook needs money, instead of going to the banks, why doesn’t Facebook let its users invest in Facebook in a social way? Why not transform Facebook into a ‘social business’ the way Nobel Price winner Muhammad Yunus described it? (link inserted here) What do you think? #hackercup2011

The message–along with the fan page–has since been removed, but concerns over security within one of the world’s most visited sites lingered. Some of Techcrunch’s readers begged to differ, saying the stunt was not the real deal and instead a hoax. For one, Zuckerberg’s personal profile remained stable, as well as his official fan page, which was last updated after Time magazine named him Person of the Year 2010.

The hacked page, as some readers stated, is simply fan-made; that it could either be a case of the hacker being not too smart enough to tell the real Zuckerberg fan page or an elaborate hoax of putting up a fan page weeks prior to posting a message indicating that it has been hacked. You be the judge.
