Google Maps 5.0 for Android Features 3D Map View

Posted on December 16, 2010

Google has updated its Google Maps, as the 5.0 for Android now uses vector graphics for its maps, making it lighter compared to the stitched-together images used in previous versions. Plus, a simple two finger swipe tilts the map to give it a 3D view. Although the buildings appear like a bunch of white cubes, it still is a lot useful. And because of the low bandwidth it consumes, the new Google Maps 5.0 enables offline caching, especially for most frequently visited locations.

The Google Maps 5.0 is now available for anybody with Android 1.6 or higher devices for free. However, the 3D view and offline features are available for 2.0 and above only.
