Best Digital Cameras Today

CNET has probably reviewed every digital camera available in the market today and has compiled a short list of the best among the lot.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II – Following the footsteps of the equally top-rated 5D, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II impresses the reviewers with its excellent performance and photo quality. Its video quality, meanwhile, is just as top-notch. However, note that this camera has no built-in wireless controller, as well as an integrated flash. “A more direct controls would be nice,” wrote the reviewer. Price starts at US$2,145.

Nikon D5000 – Despite some design flaws, such as having a tiny viewfinder and middle-of-the-line video quality, the Nikon D5000 can still capture high-quality still photos (which matters most)–not to mention the value for money. Price starts at $696.85.

Canon PowerShot S90 – A compact digicam ideal for advanced users, the Canon PowerShot S90 provides excellent manual control system and very good photos even in low light. Its biggest fault, however, is the lack of an optical viewfinder, as well as the absence of a HD movie mode. Price starts at $354.99.

Panasonic DMC-GF1 – This compact camera (pictured) comes with interchangeable lens. It delivers excellent photo quality and performance for its class. It does not have an electronic viewfinder, although it can be added for an additional charge. Prices starts at $792.82

Kodak EasyShare Z915 – A fully-automatic compact camera, the Kodak EasyShare Z915is lauded for its sturdy design and fast performance for its class. It tends to over-process photos, though. Price starts at $149.99
