USB 3.0

The Universal Serial Bus (USB) technology has enabled peripheral devices connect more efficiently with computers and has replaced the serials and parallel ports of yore.  Since its introduction in 1996, more and more devices have included USB ports in their systems.

And soon, people will experience the latest USB upgrade:  The SuperSpeed USB 3.0.  Set to become widely available in 2010, the USB 3.0 is said to have a fourth transfer mode at 4.8 gigabits per second.  In layman’s terms, it is 10 times faster that USB 2.0 while using less power.  Plus, it is completely backwards-compatible, wherein the USB 3.0’s five connector pins are cleverly designed to connect with the four 2.0 pins.  Makes you wonder how the 4.0 would fare.
