Altek T8680 12 Megapixel Camera Phone

Some say that a great camera phone is judge by how big is its… megapixels.  Kidding aside, it has become apparent that recent camphone models have focused more on the camera rather than the phone, and this latest device from Taiwan’s Altek has decided to push the envelope further.

The Altek T8680 mobile phone boasts of having a whopping 12 megapixel camera with 3x pop-out zoom lens that is typical of a compact digital camera, an ISO with a range from 80 to 3200, face and smile detection, touch focus, a wide array of scenes and shooting modes, as well as a small xenon flash to brighten up any subject.

Despite this amazing feature, others say that having a camera with that much resolution power on your phone still means nothing.  For one, you could view the images from your phone through a mere 3-inch WQVGA LCD screen.  And since this cameraphone only has tri-band GSM/ EDGE support, expect that you cannot send these huge image files through e-mail directly from your phone.

The T8680 can also play VGA video, play back MP3, and AAC files.  It even has a built-in FM radio tuner, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB connection, TV port, PictBridge, and DPOF handle local connectivity.  And yes, just in case you forgot, it also makes calls.

The Altek T8680 is available in China for 3,000 yuan (around $439) starting late August or early September.  Whether this will become available overseas is yet to be known.
