Goofiest Game Gears: Strap-on Controllers

There was a brief period when, for some reason, developers of game controllers thought strapping any and all forms of game gears to your being is cool and futuristic (read: Nintendo Power Glove and LaseScope). Not really.

The Nintendo Power Glove, in fact, is nothing more than glove-shaped game pad with a plenty of buttons on it. Last generation’s gamers certainly intimidated a lot of foes with the Power Glove when playing "The Wizard".

Fast track to 2009, and you’ve got the resurrected Power Glove – the Peregrine. It’s now a lot less bulky and a lot more ‘dark’ looking (and it’s not just the color). The Peregrine is a PC input or a human interface device. Mostly, it’s a whole lot of shortcut buttons built into certain ‘key points’ along the fingers of the glove. Make commands simply by pressing your fingertips together. The resurrected power glove is first and foremost a game gear. However, you can configure it to work with programs like PhotoShop or video-editing suites.

If the Peregrine got mixed or lukewarm reviews from expert gamers and computer users, at least it’s got a fan in the US Military. You read that correctly. The US Military reportedly contacted Iron Will Technologies (creators of the Peregrine) about using the gloves for tech-soldiers of the future. Talk about game plots.

Onto Konami’s ridiculous strap-on: the LaserScope. This one requires you to plaster a Nintendo light gun on your forehead and yell "fire". It was plain goofy on two accounts. First, you can yell any darned word and the LaserScope still worked because its mic was defective. Second, the screen blocks your line of sight, so you had to crane your neck to aim. The LaserScope is plenty goofy, if you ask me. And I haven’t even mentioned how goofy it looked on people.
