As all of you probably know, the iPhone OS 3.0, the next version of the most advanced mobile platform in the world, update packs in a long list of features including a system-wide cut and paste (at last), a system-wide landscape keyboard, and multimedia messaging.

It has far more hits than misses, especially since it has finally included some basic features that every other mobile phone has. So what are the new features aimed more at consumers? Here are the key ones:

With iPhone OS 3.0, you can now record voice, have live and audio streaming, delete and forward individual messages, and sync Notes with iTunes. It now has a system-wide search, which includes Calendar, Mail, iPod and web. The action button in Photos also lets you pick more than one pictures to attach to mail messages. There is also the Voice Memos, which you can edit, crop and share using MMS or email.

What’s more, Parental Controls are extended to TV shows, movies, and App Store content. It now also supports more languages, has WiFi auto-login for hotspots, and turn-by-turn navigation. It has proxy support, detailed Calls Log with call durations, anti-phishing tool in Mobile Safari, and many more.

The iPhone OS 3.0 will be available “some time in summer”. It will be free of charge to original iPhone and iPhone 3G owners. iPod touch owners in the United States will have to pay $9.95 for the software.
