Fujitsu FLEPia eBook Reader

You may have heard of Amazon’s Kindle eBook reader that has amazed some people with its innovative way of reading electronic books, but has left others unimpressed because of its clunky operation and grayscale display.  Recently, Fujitsu has announced that it will release its version of an eBook reader that made some techies jump for joy.  For one, it displays color. 

The Fujitsu FLEPia is an eBook reader that contains an 8-inch, 1024 x 768 XGA touchscreen that can display up to 260,000 colors.  It also features Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, an SD card slot that can store up to 4GB of memory, and a 40-hour battery life.  The FLEPia displays PDF, TXT, HTML, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, XMDF eBook formats, and virtually all image formats in color.  This eBook reader also has stereo speakers, a USB 2.0 port, and can even load Windows CE 5.0.

The FLEPia has been a project of Fujitsu for the past two years, when they introduced the world’s first film substrate-based bendable color electronic paper with image memory function.  It will be initially available in Japan, but techies from other countries can pre-order it online on Fujitsu’s website and will be shipped beginning April 20, 2009.  The price?  About US$1000.
