BenQ felt that all netbooks were beginning to look the same, so it came up with Joybook Lite U101, a netbook that’s hard to forget. At first glance, Joybook Lite looks very much like many others on the market today. It features a 10.2 inch display, runs Windows XP, and is powered by 1.6GHz Inte l Atom CPU. But few things set it apart.

Joybook Lite features a 16:9 aspect ratio display (1024 x 576 pixels), great for watching HD movies which usually come in this ratio. BenQ banks on the glittery and shiny design finishes, setting Joybook Lite apart from other netbooks. Its cover has an emoticon design: Small light blue emoticons are printed on the device’s blue glossy lid. It is also available in pink, white, and black.

Joybook Lite has several access panels on its back. It has an empty PATA/ZIF slot, allowing you to add an SSD or hard drive. There’s also a spare mini PCI-e slot which could be useful for a 3G modem or some other goodies. This mini-laptop features a 4-in-1 card reader, 1.3MP webcam, 3 x USB 2.0 ports, Bluetooth, and WiFi 802.11 b/g, LAN. While Joybook Lite is not available in the United States yet, you can buy this netbook in Taiwan for around $550.
