The Sony Rolly, which was a huge hit among Japanese customers, is now available in the United States. In case you have no idea what it is, don’t worry… you’re not alone.

In a nutshell, the Rolly Sound Entertainment Player is an football-shaped robot with wheels that can play tunes out of its built-in speakers placed on its opposing sides, but at the same time it moves its six moving parts to the music. The appendages include a pair of arms, shoulders, and wheels that work with two LED lamps. It could even spin around like a bottle on truth-or-dare for a full dancing robot experience. Watch this video to have an idea how it moves. (Warning: Typical Japanese cuteness ahead)

The Rolly comes with preloaded songs that are already choreographed for your pleasure, including Avril Lavigne’s "Girlfriend" and Earth Wind and Fire’s "Boogie Wonderland." It has 2GB of space that lets you upload up to 520 of your favorite songs. To make the robot move, you could either let the Rolly player analyze and interpret the music, download the choreography from your computer with the included Motion Editor Software, or you even program the dance yourself.

The Rolly makes an enjoyable way of listening to digital music, a step ahead of the age-old visualizations that you stare at the computer monitor. Its Bluetooth capability also make the Rolly capable to play music wirelessly from other devices like a mobile phone or personal computer, and it comes with a Lithium-ion battery that can provide up to five hours of continuous playback.

There is, however, some criticism about the product. They claim that the Rolly is one of those things that "look cute" when seen in an electronics expo, but wouldn’t impress a broader audience.

You could avail yourself of the Sony Rolly for $400 on Sony Style online stores. It is also available in Black.
